At the highest point of Ban Qua commune is Ban Pho village, with its houses nestled in the midst of lush mountains and forests. This place has a favorable climate and soil for the growth and development of dong leaves.
Some Dao households, with their production experience, have cultivated large areas of dong leaves. They grow them in their home gardens, on hillsides, and in rice fields. While the exact area of dong leaves in Ban Pho hasn’t been fully quantified, it is considered the capital for supplying dong leaves to Bat Xat district and Lao Cai city.
In fact, the Dao people in Ban Pho not only consume dong leaves during Tet but also supply them to the market year-round, as customers use them not only for wrapping bánh (cakes) but also for wrapping sticky rice, roasted meat, and safe food... Dong leaves provide a stable source of income, contributing to the happiness of many Dao families in Ban Pho.
